Sikhs across from Midwest and members of Punjabi Heritage Organization (PHO) celebrated their Thanksgiving Day at the Tom Seay Salvation Army Center in Chicago.  They sponsored and served the Thanksgiving meal to all who came at the center. For the past Fourteen years Sikh Community of Chicago has been hosting Meal for Salvation Army at Thanksgiving Day.
They started this in 1992 and since then every Thanksgiving & Christmas Eve and 3rd Saturday of the month the people of Salvation Army prepare meals and “Sikh community of Chicago” pays for the meals and helps serve them.

Hundreds of people enjoyed the delicious meal cooked by the chefs of Salvation Army and was sponsored by “Sikh Community of Chicago“. This has been a tradition of Sikhs from last few years to come here in Salvation Army Center and Thank God for all his blessings and share what we all have with his blessings, said Sarwan Singh who has been coordinating this effort from previous years.

We want to celebrate this day in sharing, caring and making sure we can make a difference to help others especially on this Thanksgiving Day, said Hardial Singh Deol, who has been a part of this effort for a long time. Sikhs from all over Midwest came to serve the meal to Hundreds of people at the Center.
Lt.Colonel David E. Grindle who is the Divisional Commander of the Metropolitan Division of The Salvation Army and Major John Price & Major Jo-Ann Price, Directors of the Salvation Army Center thanked the Sikh community for sponsoring the meal for this special day. We sincerely appreciate the efforts and support we get from Sikh Community every year, said Price. In this cold weather Sikhs have always been here every year on Thanksgiving and some other special holidays to serve the meal and sponsor it, further said Price. Ministry Intern Dennis from the Salvation Army Center helped in coordinating this effort by the Sikh community.

 Some of officials of Salvation Army have already visited Gurudawara Sahib Palatine to pay respect and observe the services including “Free Kitchen (Langar)”.

Prominent amongst who served, helped and supported were Punjabi Heritage Organization (PHO), Hardial Singh Deol, Kirpal Singh Randhawa, Iqbal Singh Chopra, Sarwan Singh, Amarjeet Singh, Raj Singh, Lakhwinder Singh Sandhu, Narinderpal Singh Marwah, Tejinder Singh Minhas, Tony Sanghera, Paramjit Singh Sangha, Dr.Harjinder Singh Khaira, Jairam Singh Kahlon and many others.
