The high prices of raw iron has caused many businesses to shut down down due to the profit margin being dropped below the acceptable profit to run the business successfully during the past few years. When in 1990 Freight Equalization policy was introduced by the govt. the price of raw iron, which was imported in many mills and factories in Batala, have gone up. Big mills and business did survive in the decade but many small business owners have to shut down the business completely and looked for other businesses. This has put a great impact on the Batala industry, which was one of the major supply of Raw Iron and its product. Ludhiana Iron industry got the major impact of this which is one of the biggest iron industry not only of Punjab but India. If still govt. did not take neccessary stpes to motivate the industy theourh other programs and resources, the fate is dark for the business onwers who have managed to survive |
