Kila Raipur humming with activities as Games approaching fast

KILA RAIPUR (LUDHIANA), January 11 : The Grewal Sports Association has once again pooled all their resources at their disposal to conduct the 72nd Kila Raipur Sports Games, popularly known over the world as "Rural Olympics" and the prestigious Bhagwant Memorial Gold Cup Hockey Tournament for seniors, juniors (men and women) from February 1 to 4 at the Grewal Sports Stadium here, according to Chief Organiser Sukhvir Singh Grewal.
ImageThe Kila Raipur and its neighboring villages are already humming with activities as the games are fast approaching. Besides hosting of a number of Olympic sports disciplines, the traditional rural unique feats by 'super human beings" namely pulling of tractors with the teeth, balancing a plough with funnel between his jaws and scores of other astonishing spell-bound display and stuns. Of course, the bullock cart races, considered to be the 'King of Show" will attract farmers the most. The farmers of Punjab nurse and nourish their bullocks round-the-year for the bullock cart race in the world famous Kila Raipur Games.
Dancing horse display, tent pegging and horse show, para gliding, dog races, loading and unloading tractor trolley, track and field events, cycle races, hockey, tug-of-war, crowd-pulling game kabaddi and tug-of-war are some of the events which will enthrall the spectators who throng the Grewal Stadium in thousands of thousands. The organisers are offering cash prizes to the athletes who obtain first three positions. The winner will get Rs 5,000, runner-up Rs 3,000 and third position holder Rs 2,000.
ImageThe spectators use all modes of transportation from cycles, tractor trolleys, trucks, bullock carts and even costly cars.
Grewal said that the crowded day's programme will culminate into cultural programmes by the noted artistes on each day. Folk dances -- gidha Bhangra, Rajasthani and Haryanvi dances --- dhadi jatha and bhand marrasi and programme by top folk singers of Punjab will make the evenings more thrilling and entertaining.
A free medical camp by Dr Ramesh MD (eyes and medical check-up) will also be organised. Free medicines to the needy by The Grewal Sports Association will provide free medicines to the needed persons.
Like every year, the Grewal Sports Association will recognize the valuable services rendered by the prominent personalities of Punjab. Among those to be honored this year are  Three-time Hockey Olympians Balbir Singh Senior (hockey), Ashok Dhyan Chand (hockey), Teja Singh (camel jockey), Bahadur Singh, Manjit Kaur (athletics),  Santokh Singh Tokhi (kabaddi),  PAU VC Vice Chancellor KS Aulokh, journalist Prabhjot Singh (Bureau Chief, the Tribune), Gill Surjit (song writer) and comedian Jaspal Bhatti.

Feb 1: Bullock cart time trial and hockey matches. (100 bullock carts likely).
Feb 2: Bullockcart races, volleyball men (shootingball), basketball, kabaddi (62 kg), mule cart races, cycle races for under-19. Athletics for U-19 boys and girls and sub-junior section and hockey matches.
Feb 3: Cycle races men), tent pegging and horse show, sack lifting in pairs, bullock cart races, gymnastics, tractor races, dog races, kabaddi (open one village), hockey (men and women), tractor trailer off loading and loading, tug-of-war, kabaddi (sub-junior), wrestling. athletics (100, 400, 1500 m, pole vault men, 800m (women), long jump (men and women), archery, air model show and para gliding.
Feb 4: Finals: Kabaddi (women), kabaddi (one village), bullockcart race, kabaddi (veterans), horse race, cycle race (men), athletics (200, 400, 800m (men), 100 m (w), shot put (m and w), high jump (men and women), 100m (veterans, 70-75 yrs, 75-80 yrs, and 85 plus), shot put (veterans, 70-75 yrs).
Cultural programme on all three days: Dancing horses, folk dances (gidha bhangra, Rajasthani, Haryanvi dances, dhadi jatha and bhand marrasi, programme by top folk singers of Punjab.
