Bhatinda

Bathinda is a city in Punjab state of northwestern India. It is the administrative headquarters of Bathinda District. When we refer to city of lakes it is most oftenly refered to Bhatinda. Bhatinda (also spelt as Bhathinda, Batinda) is one of the oldest and most famous cities of Punjab. Bhatinda’s cotton and agricultural production is well known. It is developing fast and some of the recent developments are a modern thermal power plant, fertilizer factories, and a massive oil refinery. Bhatinda is well linked to other cities and New Delhi by an efficient rail and transport system.

It is believed that Rao Bhatti established the modern town of Bathinda in the Lakhi jungle area in the 3rd century, and it was captured from him by the Barars.

Bala Rao inhabited this city in 965, naming it Bhatinda after his caste name. The city also remained the capital of Raja Jaipal.

The historical monuments reflect sikh, hindu and muslim culture as well.

There are numorouse places one can visit in Bhatinda.

Qila Mubarak, built by Raja Binepal, was built approx 1200 years back and was under the rule of many rulers since it existance. The main rulers to worth mentioning are Mohammad Gauri, Mohammad Gazni and not to forget Maharaja Ala Singh of Patiala. It is said that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Guru of Sikhs, also visited the fort.

Gurudwara of Haji Rattan In history we have heard about famous poet Rattan Chand who was disowned by the society for going to Makka for Haj. The first Guru of Sikhs Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed him andthe Gurudwara of Hajji Rattan stands in his memory. “Hajji” means one who goes to Makka for Hajj. The tomb (Mazaar) of this poet is also located near the Gurudwara.

Takhat Damdama Sahib The sacred shrine is approx 32 km from main Bhatinda city and is also known as “Talwandi Sabbo”. It is said that the Guru Granth Sahib (Holy Book of Sikhs” was written here by Bhai Manna Singh Ji and recompiled by Guru Gobind SIngh Ji. You may also find a small Sikh Museum which showcases antique objects like stamps, swords, guns, portraits, Magic Mirror. A blod stained dress of Guru Gobind Singh Ji is also kept here. Recently a mtchbox size Guru Granth Sahib has also been placed here.

Muktsar, although stantds itself as a city, is approx 60km from Bhatinda and is also call “Guru Ki Daab”. This place made in history books as a historical place where Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji fought the last battle along with 40 warriors , who died. Those 40 warriors are also often known as “40 Muktey”. Guruji blessed those 40 warriors with Mukti (To get Moksh) and the place got its name Muktsar.
