Dr. Kular immigrated to Canada from the Province of Punjab, India, in 1974. He obtained his medical degree from Guru Nanak Dev University before coming to Canada and doing two years of residency training in pediatrics at the IWK Hospital for Sick Children (Dalhousie University) in Halifax. Dr. Kular worked in the Canadian Armed Forces Hospital in Halifax before moving to Campbellton, New Brunswick, where he spent eight years in family practice until his final move to Brampton in 1986.

Dr. Kuldip S. Kular and his wife Jessie have been proud to call Brampton home since 1986. They have raised their four children in the community while operating a successful family and sports medicine clinic on Bramalea Road.

Community service has always been a big part of his life. From raising money for important local causes like the United Way and the William Osler Foundation to donating medical services at community sports events and organizing seminars on Canadian health care for new immigrants, Dr. Kular has worked hard with his neighbours to make a difference in Brampton.

His efforts have been recognized through certificates of outstanding community service from the Government of Ontario, the Governor General of Canada, and from the Can-Sikh Association. Dr. Kular has been a long-standing member of the Canadian Medical Association and the Ontario Medical Association. As well, he is one of the founding and life members of the Northern Indian Medical and Dental Association of Canada.

Dr. Kular was elected as a Member of Provincial Parliament for the Bramalea-Gore-Malton-Springdale riding on October 2, 2003, and currently serves on the Standing Committee on Social Policy, as well as the Cabinet committee for Community Affairs Policy. In addition, he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration until September 2004, when he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Responsible for Democratic Renewal. In March 2006, he was appointed Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, a position he continues to hold.

Dr. Kular was a member of the Speaker of the Ontario Legislature’s multi-party delegation in June 2005 to the 43rd Canadian Regional Conference for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in St. John’s, Newfoundland. In July 2005, Dr. Kular had the honour of being appointed to the multi-party Select Committee on Electoral Reform, which assessed various electoral systems.
